Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Singapore

Though Singapore is only slightly bigger than the size of Seoul, Singapore plays a leading role in economic growth and industrial development across the region and thus earning its position as one of the Four Dragons of Asia. It is also a leading nation in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Smart Cities and technological innovation in recent years.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1975, Singapore and Korea have steadily deepened our bilateral cooperation through active exchanges between our governments and people.  Singapore has consistently been a vital trading partner to Korea, and, in the past five years, has been Korea's second largest trading partner in ASEAN. In addition, the Korea-Singapore Digital Partnership Agreement (KSDPA), Korea’s first digital trade agreement, came into effect in January 2023. Many Korean engineering and construction companies in Singapore have also received high praise for their successful completion of iconic landmarks as well as execution of major infrastructure projects in the country. Furthermore, Korea and Singapore displayed strong confidence in each other and their medical infrastructures through the implementation of the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) agreement during the Covid-19 pandemic, and current people-to-people exchanges between the two countries have even exceeded pre-pandemic levels.

The demand for bilateral cooperation is expected to grow further given the Korean government’s Korea-ASEAN Solidarity Initiative as well as Singapore’s key position in ASEAN. In particular, 2025 will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and Singapore, where we will look back on the past 50 years of history between the two countries as we put our best foot forward to lay the groundwork for the preparation of the next 50 years.
